Having closely worked with Walmart on this transformative project, I'm thrilled to share our collaborative journey. We embarked on a mission to enhance Walmart's recruitment process, focusing on cost-effectiveness and a candidate-centric ranking system. The subsequent 60 days post-implementation showcased astounding results, a testament to our combined efforts and strategic approach.

In their continuous pursuit of excellence, Walmart recognized areas of opportunity within their technical aptitude tests. The evolving needs of candidates, especially those applying for operative roles, highlighted the potential for enhancements. Some candidates found certain aspects, like accessing emails and needing a desktop environment, less intuitive. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Walmart noted that a more streamlined approach could further reduce drop-off rates. They also identified that refining their question set could better align with the evolving demands of the roles, ensuring that top-ranking candidates were in sync with the company's needs.

Critical data that guided the revamp project included identifying drop-off points, correlation between hires and scores, test completion rates, and email open rates.

A new solution emerged

Talkpush offered a revised and role-specific set of tests that genuinely evaluated soft skills and simulation questions. These questions were tailored for the target audience and calibrated to identify high-performing candidates. Moreover, Talkpush's unique ranking job match feature could determine candidates' job capabilities and suggest better-suited job matches for different roles.

One of the standout features of Talkpush was its ability to generate a skill test for each job role and send invitations across various communication channels. Candidates could perform the test on platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and web interface. This inclusivity aligned perfectly with Walmart's commitment to providing equal opportunities for all candidates.

Implementing the recommendations

The transition to Talkpush was swift and efficient. Within 30 days, Walmart transitioned to Talkpush's assessment and scoring system, including a complete overhaul of the tests for each job type. Walmart's hiring teams received comprehensive training, and in their first month, they were operating with a faster and more streamlined workflow. All candidate information, test invitations, performance analysis, and talent prioritization were managed within a single CRM, making the process seamless.

Results

40% increase in completion rate
Previously fluctuating between 35% and 40%, the rate has risen to an impressive 79.9%. Such a substantial rise is a direct outcome of Walmart's strategic decision to prioritize candidate experience and inclusivity in every channel for every device.

True inclusion in numbers
With the enhanced completion rate, Walmart's pool of potential hires has expanded dramatically. For 20,000 completed tests every month, the increase from 40% to 79.9% means that Walmart can now consider an additional 7,980 candidates monthly who have the opportunity to be part of the Walmart family, showcasing the company's commitment to true inclusion.

Engaging the missed opportunities
With the introduction of automatic reminders for candidates who either couldn't complete the test at a specific time or simply forgot, Walmart ensures that no potential talent slips through the cracks, converting an additional 5% of the total without any effort. The system allows them to complete the test 24/7, anywhere.

Streamlined recruitment
The expanded talent pool has had a ripple effect on the recruitment process. Recruiters now have a richer reservoir of qualified talent at their fingertips. As soon as there's a new vacancy, they can identify the right fit within minutes with Talkpush’s job matching feature, ranking candidates not only based on their test results but all variables required to excel on that particular job, further reducing the time to hire.

Walmart's transition to Talkpush demonstrated the importance of an inclusive and efficient recruitment process. By prioritizing both cost-efficiency and a candidate-centric approach, Walmart has set a benchmark for other organizations to follow, once more.
